Intellectual Property Protection Report 2026 by TEMU

Temu has just published its Intellectual Property Protection Report for 2026. This article explores the core metrics and highlights regarding their IP enforcement efforts:

Key Statistics & Data at a Glance
  • Proactive Enforcement: Globally, proactive product removals exceeded complaint-based takedowns by a ratio of 331:1 during the reporting period, showing a 60%+ increase year-on-year.

  • Cleanliness Rate: The platform achieved a 99.97% cleanliness rate across listings involving alleged counterfeiting and unfair trademark use, as independently assessed by the third-party organisation REACT.

  • Seller Vetting: More than 40% of seller applications were rejected during onboarding due diligence for failing to meet verification requirements.

  • Store Terminations: Over 16,000 stores were terminated from the platform during the reporting period for repeated IP violations.

  • Proactive Monitoring Database: The proprietary system incorporates over 15,000 brands, more than 47 million images (a 9.4-fold increase), and over 9.5 million keywords.

  • Complaint Resolution: The average resolution time for intellectual property complaints is under 24 hours.

  • Direct Brand Collaboration: Temu works directly with over 3,000 brands, including a dedicated initiative that supports over 500 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

  • Consumer Awareness Interceptions: The platform blocks searches for counterfeit-related terms (like "fake" or "dupe"), intercepting more than 80,000 searches daily to deliver educational messages.

Program Initiatives

1. Robust Proactive Controls

Temu integrates automated algorithms (text and image recognition, logo detection, and optical character recognition) with manual reviews to screen products both at the pre-listing stage and during continuous post-publication monitoring.

2. The Brand Guardian Initiative

Launched in April 2024, this initiative offers one-on-one support for rights holders to directly embed their IP assets (trademarks, images, and keywords) into Temu’s database. This shifts the monitoring burden away from brands, moving enforcement from a traditional "whack-a-mole" approach to proactive prevention. Notably, the program included a dedicated task force to safeguard official logos and national team assets ahead of the World Cup 2026.

3. SME Supporting Initiative

To assist emerging independent creators and smaller businesses with limited legal resources, this operations stream provides prioritised communication channels, streamlined documentation requirements, and automated long-term monitoring protection.

4. Global Industry & Authority Engagement

Temu has engaged with more than 130 leading industry associations, doubling its reach over the previous period. Key partners and committees include:

  • INTA (International Trademark Association): Active contribution to the Anti-Counterfeiting, Legislative & Regulatory, and In-House Practitioners Committees.

  • IACC (International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition): Active participation in the Marketplace Advisory Council (MAC) and the launch of the IACC-Temu Program.

  • Other bodies: Ongoing tactical collaborations with UNIFAB, REACT, INDICAM, the Anti-Counterfeiting Group (ACG), and the Automotive Anti-Counterfeiting Council (A2C2),  the latter of which recognised Temu's strict policy banning the sale of airbags and airbag components.

  • Public Authorities: Dialogue on enforcement trends with international organisations like WIPO, UKIPO, Europol, OLAF, and the WCO.
